My Favourite Things

New series examining how contemporary and classic music and songs have gained greater popularity through the intervention of artists from another genre, elevating them into new works, that appeal to an entirely different kind of listener.

The song, My Favourite Things, from the 1959 stage play The Sound of Music, was made into a hit by John Coltrane in 1961 – four years before the show was made into a popular film – whose innovative improvisation around the songs chord introduced his pioneering work to a brand-new audience.
